Sport, Fashion & Female Identity
The representation of women within sports has always been tarnished. From people saying that they cannot participate because they are ‘too weak’ or presenting the idea that they have to be a homosexual because they play a sport. Often women find themselves being questioned by men for showing interests in sports, saying that they are only interested as the men playing are ‘hot’.

Whilst the acceptance of women in sports are improving, the way that they are presented are still lacking improvement. If you are to look at mainstream magazine covers like Sports Illustrated, the covers featuring women are sexualised and sometimes have no relevance to the sport the athlete plays. Female athletes can often be dehumanised and not appreciated for the talents they have, being seen as a ‘body’ or an object for men to gawk at whilst competing.
The idea behind this shoot I have done is to connect femininity with sport, pairing the jerseys with a loose flowing skirt, rather than sexualising the model, empowering them.
